   Discover Diving

With our 12–meter (40–foot) fresh–water pool, Taveuni Ocean Sports can easily introduce first–time divers to the novelty of scuba diving one of Taveuni's spectacular reefs. Our PADI Discover Scuba Diving program is a thorough introduction to scuba, designed for non–certified divers and first timers. New divers successfully completing the pool portion of our program are qualified to dive the beautiful reefs of Taveuni and its neighboring islands to a maximum of 12 meters (40 feet). With our many years of experience, small groups of divers (never more than 6 on board), and low diver to instructor ratio of never more than 4 to 1, we customize trips to match the comfort level, interest and skill of every diver.

PADI Introductory Dive - Pool Lesson Only

We use PADI's Discover Scuba Diving program to introduce the fundamentals of diving, beginning with a hands-on introduction to the gear, safety rules, diving theory, and skills needed to enjoy scuba diving. A session in our 12-meter (40–feet) swimming pool provides practice time for essential scuba diving skills, while building confidence in a safe, controlled environment. The entire session takes approximately 1.5 hours.

PADI Introductory Dive - Pool Lesson and Ocean Dive

This program includes the pool lesson described above plus a one or two tank dive on a shallow, protected coral reef. After completing the skills and pool lessons, divers are qualified to dive in the ocean to a maximum depth of 12 meters (40 feet), under the direct supervision of our PADI instructors. This half–day excursion including skills, pool, and an ocean dive ranges from 4 – 5 hours. Divers completing this program receive credit towards certification. Tanks, weights and gear package are included. We provide delicious snacks, cold beverages, and a hot shower after every dive.

PADI Certification for New Divers

First–time divers seeking PADI certification do not take PADI's Introductory Dive course; instead they proceed directly to our PADI Open Water Certification Course, which incorporates PADI's Introductory Dive and concludes with PADI certification.

Medical Requirements for New (non–certified) Divers

Before diving, every new (non–certified) diver must complete, sign, and provide to us our one-page Personal Medical Questionnaire endorsed by PADI. Divers responding "yes" for any medical condition also must provide before diving, a copy of our downloadable Medical Statement signed by a physician indicating "no medical conditions incompatible with diving."
